May 22

• PI gives a non-binding letter of intent to Dr. Charles Bigger.
  E-mail may be used.  The letter should include the anticipated type of
  proposal (SC1, 2 or 3) and a history of past, current and pending extramural
  research support.

• PI submits SC1, SC2, or SC3 proposal (with all appropriate PHS
  398 forms) to the MBRS office. 

• Submit names of five potential external
  reviewers (you need to contact the reviewers and get their commitment to
  potentially quickly review your proposal).  To maintain anonymity, three
  reviewers will be selected by Dr. Bigger and each reviewer will receive $200
  after returning their review.  They will also receive internal review.

• The proposals will have been returned to the PIs with
  reviewers' comments.

• The PI submits the revised SC1, SC2, or SC3 proposal to the
  MBRS office for MBRS review and final selection for the NIGMS submission.
  At this time, it is uncertain how many SC proposals can be forwarded to
  NIGMS.

• The proposals will be returned to the PIs with
  recommendations from the MBRS Office.  At this time the PI will complete the
  internal clearance process.

Final letter in 9/16/08

• The PI submits the final proposal (must include letters,
  appendices, etc.) with internal clearance documents, signed through the
  dean, to MBRS for final clearance before it goes to OSRA.

• Due, with internal clearance completed, to OSRA.
